Production Notes:
Several takes of the bass with Mike self-operating the desk before James arrived, and a couple of better ones after.
The guitar on Waiting In The Deep was recorded along to a click, which proved to be a bit of a nightmare. We started out at 4/4. 95bpm, only to discover that the ‘one’ was shifting, because there are bars of 3/4 every so often (you’d think Mike would know this since he wrote it, right? Wrong!). So we switched to 2/4 at 190bpm, which is probably closer to the way James plays the drum part, except that Mike was having trouble staying in sync with the click. After about an hour of abortive takes and messing around (including 4/4 at 380 bpm!) we finally managed to coax Logic’s metronome into submission with 2/8 at 95bpm, with a slightly custom set of click settings which were effectively a ‘1 and 2 and’ with the 2 pitched up to sound like a snare offbeat.
